Wedding Emergency Kits
Wedding Emergency Kit - What is it and what to include
Throughout your wedding planning or even before, you might have heard someone mention an Emergency Kit for your wedding. What is it? Emergency Kits range in size. If you have hired a wedding planner, their kit might be a bit more elaborate. Your Emergency Kit is your go-to for some of the little things you might need on your wedding day.
What to include in your Emergency Kit:
Tylenol and Advil
Double sided tape
Extra makeup
Scissors
Gum and Mints
Wipes
Hand Sanitizer
Lighters
Sewing kit
Hair pins
These are just a few of the necessities that you should have in your emergency kit. The majority of these items can be purchased at your local Dollar Store.
If you have hired a wedding planner, their emergency kit will be more extensive. My emergency kit is two parts. The first one is a carry-on bag on wheels. This is where I keep a lot of my bigger items plus any doubles. A few examples that I have include my steamer, zip ties, hair spray and mousse, snacks, extra pens, lighters, tea lights, different colours and textures of ribbon, makeup samples for all different skin tones, and more. I also carry a backpack. My backpack stays with me the entire day. This is where I keep items that are the most frequently used; such as hair pins, tape, wipes, kleenex, lighters, sewing kit, scissors, Tylenol and Advil, lint brush, gum and mints.
You may not think you need an emergency kit on your wedding day but it is always better to be safe than sorry. At one of my clients weddings, one of the groomsmen ripped a hole in his pants. He was able to patch things up with my sewing kit and continue dancing the night away. At another wedding, my assistant and I created a tossing bouquet by pulling some florals from the centerpieces around the venue and using some ribbon that I had in my kit that matched the theme of the wedding. I have used my steamer for styled shoots. This comes in handy when your dress or suit may have picked up some creases along it’s travel to your getting ready location. Lighters are a big one as well. I go through several lighters every year. Most venues the staff will help with lighting candles but if you have a lot of candles, it is always great to have a few extra hands to help ensure the process goes faster as you want your guests to experience that WOW factor when they enter the reception space. As a wedding planner, it is important to me that I make sure everyone is eating and staying hydrated. I will always carry extra water bottles and granola bars on wedding days. If you are having a summer wedding, it is especially important to make sure you are drinking enough water.
