Micro Wedding at Deer Creek Golf Club - Ajax, ON

Covid-19 has impacted many couples in 2020 and now 2021. Couples have had to re-evaluate their whole idea of what their wedding would have looked like. Enter the micro weddings. With covid-19 not going anywhere anytime soon, micro weddings will become quite the trend going forward.

The majority of Planning & Events by Sarah Megan’s couples chose to postpone their weddings to 2021 and 2022 but for Melissa and Eric, they had their hearts set on 2020.

I was hired by Melissa and Eric back in November of 2018 for Full Wedding Coordination. I was so excited to be working with them right off the bat. After getting a feeling for what they were envisioning for their wedding, we started shopping for that perfect wedding venue. On our travels, we saw some beautiful venues including Pathways on Pleasure Valley in Uxbridge, Ajax Convention Centre and finally Deer Creek Golf Course in Ajax. On our tour of Deer Creek, we were shown the plans for their renovations that they would be working on in the winter of 2019-2020. Melissa and Eric were so excited about the renovations and thought it would be the perfect place for them to tie the knot.

After booking Deer Creek for May 2020, the remainder of the other wedding vendors fell quickly into place including the talents behind TNM Photography, ForeverSounds DJ Services, Martin Wedding Officiants, Annie Lane Weddings, Cupcakes Canada, Simply Stationery and VanBelle Flowers just to name a few.

As we entered 2020, we were all excited to be finalizing all the hard work Melissa and Eric had put into planning their wedding. Then March came along and things got turned upside down. As businesses were forced to shut down, it meant a delay in Deer Creek completing their renovations. As the shut down continued, things were not looking promising. The call finally came that the wedding would have to be postponed as the construction company was still unable to get into the facility due to the continued shut down. Melissa and Eric made the difficult decision to postpone the wedding to July 2020.

No one expected that Covid-19 would impact our lives for as long as it has. Things were not getting better. Deer Creek was still unable to complete their renovations in time to meet the new July date that Melissa and Eric had booked. The wedding had to be postponed again to October 2020. It was very hard to see all their plans change yet again. After some considerable thought, Melissa and Eric decided they didn’t have the heart to continue this way and cancelled their wedding.

In April, Melissa and Eric tied the knot in a very intimate wedding in their backyard. They were happy to finally have made it official. Despite not being able to be there due to Covid restriction, I was so happy for Melissa and Eric.

Some time had gone by when Melissa reached out to me asking for my help as they had decided that they would still like to proceed with a small wedding so that they could celebrate with a few more of their friends and family. We were back into planning mode. Deer Creek had just come out with their new Intimate Wedding Package where you could host your wedding ceremony and then do a dinner for 10 people in their restaurant after. Melissa and Eric rebooked Deer Creek for their ceremony and photo session for August 15th, 2020. I was so excited to get the opportunity to celebrate with Melissa and Eric.

Thankfully, I was able to confirm the original vendor team for the new date. Everyone was ecstatic that they were able to move forward with a new date, even on a much smaller scale. Melissa and Eric’s guest list went from 120 to 30 people and only 10 people allowed for photos.

The wedding date was fast approaching with a few last details needing to be confirmed. With the restrictions in place, Melissa & Eric had to narrow down things for the 10 people they would include in their photo session after the ceremony.

The day was finally here, WEDDING DAY! I was excited to get the day started and celebrate with Melissa & Eric. The day started with me stopping by Melissa & Eric’s house to check on the groom, groomsmen and grooms parents to make sure everyone was there and getting ready. Then off to the bride’s mother’s house to see how all the ladies were making out. Makeup and Hair, provided by the talented Katie Lynne Hair, was ahead of schedule. Flowers had just arrived and all personal items that needed to be transferred to the venue, were organized and ready to go. The cake and cupcakes arrived just before noon and looked delicious! Neil from TNM Photography finished up with the groom and joined us to do the photographs of the ladies getting ready. Everyone looked fabulous.

Shortly before 1pm, I gathered up everything needing to be brought to the venue and made my way to Deer Creek. Things were well underway in terms of set-up. ForeverSounds DJ Services had already arrived and were nearing the end of set-up. Annie Lane Weddings set up some beautiful lanterns and draping. The ceremony chairs and tables for the sand ceremony, water station and receiving table were placed with crisp white linens. As the last of the items were put into place, guests started to arrive.

It was a beautifully warm, sunny August day. Everyone looked beautiful. Eric and the groomsmen made their way to the front of the altar with Norman Martin. As the music started to play, Eric’s parents made their way down the aisle and took their seats at the front. The bridesmaids went down the aisle to the musical stylings of Shania Twain’s “From This Moment On”. Once everyone was at the front, Norman asked everyone to stand as the song changed to “Speechless” by Dan & Shay for the bride to walk down the aisle. Melissa’s mom Debbie and flower girl Diana accompanied Melissa.

The ceremony was lovely and intimate. Melissa and Eric were able to get some beautiful photos done with their bridal party followed by the bride and groom session. Despite all the changes and curveballs thanks to COVID, Melissa and Eric were able to get their fairytale wedding. Congratulations to the beautiful couple.
